Marc Jacobs to Open Store in Gold Coast
By EDDIE BAEB
(Crain’s) — Trendy New York designer Marc Jacobs plans to open a store in the Elysian hotel and condo tower under construction in the Gold Coast.
The Marc Jacobs Collection boutique, which carries Mr. Jacobs’ most high-end apparel and handbags, is to open early next year in the Elysian at the corner of Rush and Walton streets.
The store is the first retail tenant for the new 60-story tower at 11 E. Walton that’s to include 188 condo-hotel rooms and 51 private residences. Marc Jacobs has leased 2,700 square feet, according to a press release issued late Wednesday by the project’s developer, Elysian Hotels & Resorts LLC.
Talks are under way to lease the remaining 3,900 square feet of retail space to other “international luxury brands,” says Adam Secher, a principal with Baum Realty Group, who represented the Elysian along with Janika Brenner, a Baum vice-president.
Marc Jacobs was attracted to the site because of its location near Oak Street and because it would be in the upscale Elysian tower, says Lorraine Adney, a local vice-president with Philadelphia-based McDevitt Co., who represented Marc Jacobs.
“There’s great energy on Rush Street,” Ms. Adney says.
